The Kingfisher is our most spacious safari tent, and the one built so nobody gets left at the bottom of a step. It sits on a hillside in Wimberley, Texas, one of three authentic African safari tents at Spoon Mountain Glamping, each with its own private pool.
If you have ever had to call ahead and ask whether a place would actually work, this is the one. Accessible parking, lighted walkways, ramps, a wheel-in shower with grab rails and a roomy interior you can move through without turning sideways.
INSIDE
The king bed has a comfortable mattress, soft Comphy brand sheets and plush pillows. The bathroom is large, with a wheelchair-accessible shower, custom tiling, Bee Kind toiletries and a Spoon Mountain robe. The kitchenette holds a Nespresso machine, tea kettle, microwave, mini-refrigerator, sink and dishes, with complimentary Nespresso pods and teas. The seating area looks out over the hills, with Alexa, books and cards for the slow part of the afternoon. WiFi covers the whole property.
A split AC and heat unit keeps the tent exactly where you want it, in August and in January.
OUTSIDE
Every tent gets its own wraparound deck. Yours has a private pool and a soaking tub for two, with a sitting area and lounge chairs, plus a Blackstone griddle for cooking outside. There is a custom-made tree net to read in. Mornings are Nespresso on the front deck listening to songbirds. Nights are owls, and once in a while a coyote somewhere off in the distance.
THE BOMA
Our shared pavilion has a fire pit, hot tub, infrared sauna, outdoor games and covered seating. Come meet the other glampers or keep to your own deck.
SPA TENT
Book a private massage or facial on site. Additional fee, and worth booking ahead.
WIMBERLEY
Downtown shopping, Market Days, restaurants, bars, wineries, swimming holes and walking trails are all minutes away. Blue Hole is under five.
WORTH KNOWING
Spoon Mountain is adults only, no children and no pets. One-night stays are only available in gaps between longer stays. Massages and spa services are booked in advance for an additional fee.
