Wimberley, Texas · About 90 minutes from San Antonio
Glamping near San Antonio is about 90 minutes up the road in Wimberley: three adults-only safari tents on a Hill Country hilltop, each with its own private pool and a soaking tub for two. Close enough for a weekend, far enough that the loudest thing is the fire pit.
The drive
Head north out of San Antonio and the drive becomes part of the trip: through the Hill Country, past Canyon Lake, with the option of the Devil’s Backbone, one of the most scenic stretches of road in the state, before you drop into Wimberley. The hilltop sits half a mile from the town square, minutes from Blue Hole Regional Park.

A private pool with every tent
Each 450 square foot safari tent has a king bed, heating and air conditioning, a full bathroom with a walk-in tiled shower, a kitchenette, and a Blackstone griddle on the deck. Outside: your own 8 by 18.5 foot pool with a tanning ledge, and a private soaking tub for two. We heat the pool to 85 degrees for $60 a day in the cooler months.
Adults only, on purpose
Spoon Mountain is adults only, two guests per tent, no pets, quiet hours from 10pm, and not a TV on the property. The shared Boma pavilion has a hot tub, an infrared sauna and a fire pit, there is a Spa Tent for couples massages on site, and Wimberley is an International Dark Sky community, so the stargazing outdoes anything on a screen. Stays are two nights minimum. Kingfisher is handicap accessible.
Your hosts
Guests driving up from San Antonio tell us the same two things: they cannot believe the drive was that pretty, and they cannot believe how quiet the hilltop is at night. We have lived and worked in Wimberley for more than 25 years and we still stop for the view on the Devil’s Backbone. Take it if you have the time, arrive before sunset, and tell us if you are celebrating something. The tent will be ready.
