October is Hill Country Dark Sky Night month!!
I’m sure you come to our beautiful Hill Country to see the rolling hills and incredible views, but Wimberley is also Known for its Dark Skies. Why not plan a fall visit and get away from all the hustle, bustle, and light pollution of a big city and look upward to the dark night sky of the Texas Hill Country?
The Wimberley Valley has been a proud member of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) since June 2018 and we are recognized as a “Dark Sky Community”. This is a title that is near and dear to my heart. What that means is we have taken the extra steps to make sure we have all the steps in place to be as “Light conscious” as possible. Here are the guidelines we follow:
There was a time before artificial lights when we were all connected by our common view of the night sky. We traveled by it. There are stories and poems about it. Famous art and literature and songs are all tied to the night sky. Campfire smores are consumed while everyone sings “The stars at night are big and bright ( you know what to do here….) deep in the heart of Texas” then there is the reality of the unknown vastness of what lies beyond the deep dark sky and twinkling stars that hold such a sense of amazement.
Spoon Mountain Glamping is a “Night Sky friendly” business. We wanted our guests to be able to sit on their private deck in a bathtub built for two enjoying the incredible stars above. Full moons are especially romantic and if you’re lucky enough you may even see a meteor shower!!
