Chapter 1

It was a hot and muggy Summer. Sarah Jane was left at home all alone to discover how she would spend her summer. She was bored already so she started exploring the new home she had just moved in to. Down in the basement she found some heavy wooden boxes nailed shut. She tried with all her might to open the first box she found but was unable to lift the lid. Sharah Jane then set out to find her fathers tool box in the garage, however, on the way there she was interrupted by the doorbell. She ran to the door and opened it only to discover……

That her brother AJ was at the door! Sarah Jane had no idea he was coming for a visit and gave him a huge hug! 

Soon the two made their way back downstairs to the dreary basement but this time they had tools to pry open the lid to one of the old boxes. Sarah blew away the dust and started pulling out letters and papers. She and AJ decided to carry everything upstairs so they would see better. AJ made lunch while Sarah Jane began to read through letters written in the 1920’s, nearly 100 years old!

She began to read one of the letters out loud to AJ. It was from a young girl to her grandmother. Sarah’s eyes grew bigger as she read the story out loud. It seemed to be about….

I’m scared Grandmother, I haven’t yet uncovered all of the secrets and lies being told here in Spoon Mountain, but I’m close. Please try not to worry. I will be careful. I believe I’ve found someone I can truly trust. I’ll be in touch.

Chapter 2

First let me start by saying I’m sorry mom. In the next coming day you’re going to hear some terrible things about me on the news. I wanted a chance to tell you my side of the story.

We came to spend a relaxing weekend, a getaway from the city. At first everything was wonderful. It was peaceful and beautiful here. There is something scary here…it starts at night. I was hearing voices and seeing people in the corner of my eyes that weren’t there. Something was watching us from outside the tent as we slept. Last night in the dark it broke in. I grabbed a knife and started to stab at the shadowy figure. It fell to the ground. I kept stabbing, then silence…

When I turned the lights on it was my wife. She was dead. I buried her underneath the tent. I’m headed to Mexico. Hopefully I’ll make it before sundown.

After getting into my 1974 Ford Pinto with nothing but my socks, underwear and $8.00 to my name, unsure of what direction to go to get to Mexico I pointed my pinto south and floored it. Unfortunately, my Pinto started bucking and nearly gave me whiplash. Finally after the old girl settled down I managed to put 210 miles behind me. Suddenly I caught a blowout with nothing but socks and underwear on… now what?……

Chapter 3

Sarah Jane, being named after great great grandmother, and AJ met at the kitchen table to peer at this 100 year old letter more carefully.

AJ was silent but Sarah Jane thought out loud… “This letter is from our great great grandmother to her grandmother? What is this AJ? What secrets does our family carry?”
